Marcia Nieuwenhuis is a journalist and political scientist. She works as a political and foreign reporter at the Dutch daily ‘Dagblad De Pers’. From September till July she is based at The Hague, the political heart of the Netherlands. During the summer she works as a foreign reporter.
In 2009 she covered a summer sequence of Dutch high potentials in the western hemisphere (Munich, Warschau, Cairo, Dubai, Bombay, Dhaka, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai, Tokyo). In 2008 she reported the longest overland trip in the world, from the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the summer of 2007 she temporarily took part in the sports desk and reported among others the Euro Hockey Nation Championship.
Nieuwenhuis obtained both a Bachelor Degree in Journalism (TV and written media) and a Master Degree in Political Science (International Relations). During her studies in journalism she also followed the international masterclass Europe in the World, taught at Hogeschool Utrecht, the Danish School of Journalism and Aarhus University in Denmark.
Special areas of her expertise include politics, mobility, migration, health care and multicultural democracy. She extensively researched the effect of internet forums for ethnic minorities (such as the frequently visited Maroc.nl) on political participation.
